Lifeguard / Waterpark Attendant

Sunshine Marina is seeking Lifeguards/Waterpark Attendants to supervise our inflatable Waterpark for the 2022 season. Our marina operates charter houseboats, various motorized and non-motorized small water craft, a marina store, floating restaurant, boat moorage, mechanical services, a small partially serviced campground and an inflatable waterpark.  We strive to provide high quality service and believe that a positive, keen attitude is key in achieving this. The ideal candidate has lifeguarding experience combined with a positive, keen attitude and a love for lake-life. 

We are located on beautiful Lake Koocanusa, 100 km from Cranbrook and 70 km from Fernie in beautiful South Eastern British Columbia.We pride ourselves on providing a fun environment with genuine, friendly service. If you love being surrounded by sand, water and a great team of people, join us for 2022.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 20-40 Hours per week with a start date beginning in June 28th through September. 6-8 hours per day. If you are interested in working during spring cleaning, the start date is earlier. 2-3 positions available. 

  • Starting: Late June through September long weekend.

  • Hourly Wage: $16 -$19 (dependent on certifications and experience). End of season bonuses available. 

  • Must be legally available to work in Canada. We are unable to sponsor any applicants at this time.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Own transportation to the site (located 1 hr 15 min from Cranbrook, 1 hr from Fernie)

  • Valid First Aid – Level 3 preferred. Paid training offered for the right candidates prior to season start up.

  • Lifeguarding certification and experience highly preferred but not required 

  • Possess good physical condition, high level of swimming ability

  • Safety and detail oriented

  • Clean Criminal Record Check

 

DUTIES

  • Open the Waterpark kiosk including using a tablet for client check in and payment processing 

  • Provide info and safety briefing to all guests and enforce water safety policies

  • Act as the first responder and administer first aid as needed

  • Supervise the waterpark ensuring people are following rules and regulations 

  • Clean/sanitize and maintain the waterpark, equipment and waterpark kiosk 

  • Interact with clients to inform them about the lake and our services 

  • Clean the waterpark docks of garbage or belongings. Bring items to the lost and found as required 

  • Close the waterpark kiosk, stack chairs, haul garbage 

  • Other duties as required

Cleaning Ninja

Sunshine Marina is on the hunt for a Cleaning Ninja to join our team for the 2022 season. The role requires the applicant to have the ability to adapt to a variety of tasks with strong communication skills and hospitality cleaning skills.  The ideal candidate has cleaning experience combined with a positive, keen attitude.

Sunshine Marina operates 4 charter houseboats, various motorized and non-motorized small water craft, a marina store, floating restaurant, waterpark, boat moorage, mechanical services, and a small campground. The diversity of our business means every staff member has to be flexible and open to doing different tasks on demand. The short season also means the learning curve is steep, and adaptability is a skill any staff member benefits greatly from.

DUTIES

  • Clean houseboats thoroughly after winter storage in June and conduct houseboat inventory and restock as needed.  

  • Order cleaning products/supplies and manage inventory through the season with little to no supervision  

  • During the operating season (mid-June to end of September) conduct thorough and meticulous cleaning of the houseboats interiors between clients. Tasks include but are not limited to:  

    • Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping the floors 

    • Dusting furniture and fixtures

    • Vacuuming upper loft areas, mattresses, draperies and upholstered furniture

    • Cleaning, disinfecting and polishing kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances including cleaning out fridges/ovens 

    • Washing windows, walls, cupboards and ceilings as required 

    • Emptying garbages, recycling bins

    • Conducting boat inventory and reporting missing items to have them restocked

  • Manage and schedule the cleaning of the houseboats as needed in communication with the marina manager

  • Clean public and staff bathrooms

  • Clean other areas as designated 

  • Use onsite cleaning facilities to wash daily laundry for housekeeping use.

  • Cart people from our parking lot to their boat (and back), help with unloading/loading items.

  • Stock other items including ice and water at the store.  

  • Assist in detail cleaning of small watercraft, non-motorized watercraft etc. 

  • Other jobs as needed.

Dockside Cantina - Server / Food Prep

We are looking for a staff to work our Dockside Cantina (floating restaurant) at Sunshine Houseboats and Marina located on Lake Koocanusa, BC. The restaurant has a mix of simple ready-made items, as well as hotdogs, tacos, burritos, fresh salads, ice cream, Slushies and a few other fun items. Ideal candidates have serving experience in addition to food preparation and cooking skills. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

30-50 hours per week with a starting immediately. This job is fast paced and requires a mature organized person who can multitask and prioritize what needs to get done. DUTIES

  • Help clients load and unload boats using golf carts 

  • Clean hot tubs, all decks and exteriors of boats including BBQs 

  • Provide orientation to clients (not all staff will do this) 

  • Maintain boats and rental equipment

  • Work with the Rentals Coordinator to ensure boats are ready for clients 

  • Maintain garbage and recycling on boats and on land 

  • Gas up boats 

  • Remove septic waste from houseboats and RVs in our campground

  • Take garbage to dump using our staff truck

  • Maintain dock area cleanliness including inspecting for safety issues

  • Greet and assist clients in a helpful manner 

  • Assist with parking control during busy hours

  • Move watercraft around the marina (training provided)

  • Assemble and repair Waterpark as needed (training provided)

  • Complete appropriate paperwork for boat maintenance records and rentals

  • Assist service & repair associates including using service boat to assist clients on the lake 

  • Assist in a number of building, cleaning, detailing projects as needed

Future Marine Mechanic - Paid Apprenticeship Training Provided

Sunshine Marina is seeking a keen, mechanically inclined person looking to start a long term career in marine mechanics. No experience necessary. We are the largest marina on Lake Koocanusa, BC with a full service two bay mechanical shop. We are looking to grow this department with the right people. There is huge potential to grow both professionally and personally with a great team focused on quality service in a fun environment. 

Due to the speciality of the position, Sunshine will provide both paid internal and external training, provided through Mercury and other certifying institutions in BC (BCIT) or in Alberta (NAIT/SAIT). This is a great opportunity for someone who likes to travel in the winter or live and work the ski life. So if you are ready to take the leap, read on. 

Sunshine Marina is located on beautiful Lake Koocanusa, 100 km from Cranbrook and 70 km from Fernie in beautiful south eastern British Columbia. The area is well known for its stunning environment and access to unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Job is 40-45  hours per week. 4-5 days a week.
  • Contract length: May to mid-October with potential to expand into the winter months. 
  • The starting wage is $18 with no experience, the wage can increase based on skills and abilities. Paid Apprenticeship training with multi year commitment and substantial wage raises with training and responsibility increases. 
  • Skilled Mechanics are also welcome. Wages depend on experience. 
  • Apprenticeship training at BCIT, SAIT, or other required with 18 months of employment.

      DUTIES – THIS POSITION IS ENTRY LEVEL, TRAINING IS PROVIDED FOR ALL OF THE BELOW 

      • Service and repair marine motors/engines
      • Winterizing and Summarizing boats for the appropriate seasons
      • Performing Oil Changes
      • Have knowledge of some or all of the following product lines: Mercury, Mercruiser, Yamaha, Honda (an asset)
      • Troubleshoot mechanical problems on any number of marine products including seadoos, outboard and inboard motors
      • Utilize diagnostic equipment and manuals where applicable
      • Be keen to be trained on new equipment including wake surf boats
      • Maintain and utilize the mechanical inventory
      • Operate any number of marine and construction equipment as needed including hauling of trailers
      • Launch and pull watercraft as needed
      • Detail boats and RVs
